  • Capital raised in CEE by founding team gender

    Overall, in the CEE region, the percentage of capital invested in all women and mixed-gender founding teams is low.

    There is an almost stable trend of investment towards teams with at least one female founder, with 2018 as the best year with 10% of the funding.

  • Ratio Revenue per Funding

    Women-founded startups in Central and Eastern Europe, outperform in terms of capital productivity, generating 96% more revenue per EUR funding than startups founded by men.

  • Gender Pay Gap

    The gender pay gap in the EU stands at 14.1% and has only changed minimally over the last decade. It means that women earn 14.1% on average less per hour than men.

Women are the largest untapped entrepreneurial and leadership potential in Europe.

The current President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen is the first ever female President, also aiming at gender parity in the College of Commissioners. The college consists of 27 EU member states’ Commissioners, each heading a different portfolio - current standing is at 13 women - 14 men.

Women constitute 51% of the total European population. While the female employment rate has increased to 67.3%, just 34.4% of the self-employed are women, 31% of those working as start-up entrepreneurs. Only 14.8% of start-up founders are female.
